J C Pat Testing Services was founded by Chris Sharpe, initially to test his vast amount of DJ/PA equipment from his DJ business, Sharpe Sounds.
Over the years, Chris was frustrated at the quality of PAT Testers who didn’t do a thorough job of the PAT testing process. So, determined to do something about it and also ensure that customers would get a full PAT testing service. J C Pat Testing Services was born.
Chris prides himself in professionalism, honesty and a first class work ethic. Unlike some PAT testers in the business, he won’t test 150 – 200 items in a couple of hours. In order to do that, he would not be able to provide a complete service. Some companies say they will and just stick labels on your items without any inspection.
So – How is J C Pat Testing Services different?
How we carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
1 Visual Inspection: Prior to PAT Testing with a calibrated Seaward machine, Chris will conduct a visual examination of the appliance in question, checking the following:
Plug casings, including cover removal
Correct fuse rating and wiring
Terminals and connections
Bare wires.
Anything he is not happy with, he will sort out there and then at no extra charge including supplying the correct fuse.

2 Electrical examination: Using a PAT tester, Chris will then check for earth continuity, lead polarity, insulation resistance, and other electrical issues. All data is then saved, ready for compiling your full PAT test report and certificate.
3 Sticker: If the appliance passes, it will be given a sticker to show when it was tested, that it has been deemed safe to use, and when it is due to be retested. Similarly if it fails on any of the issues, the item will be removed from service, a red sticker will be applied and the item reported to the person in charge.

4 Report: At the end of the testing process, a PDF copy of the PAT results is emailed to the customer (usually when Chris is still at the premises depending on phone signal). Then a full laminated, bound copy of the results, certificate, asset register and list of failed items (if applicable) is with the customer within 48 hours (sometimes even on the same day).
